Synopsis

On a Butterfly’s Wing is a celebration of life and a tribute to our constant process of transformation.

It is also a call for action for the protection of butterflies, offering positive suggestions on how we can team up with pollinators to help each other create a better world for both.

Fusing science, art, philosophy and conservation, it relates the story of  La Reme, a flightless butterfly who narrates her life experience from egg to death and beyond.

Interwoven with La Reme’s life cycle is the life cycle of Amatxi, a lovely lady who is facing her own death.

Both stories are true, and they intertwine in reflections on our own transformations and on the unique privilege

of being alive.

A book that can metamorphose

into a family treasure.

Sir Tim Smit

This exceptional book is an inspiration, a personal guide, and a call to action.

A beautifully illustrated autobiography of a butterfly based on a true story, it spins

a magic that captures hearts and leaves us with hope and

a determination to do better.

For ourselves, for nature and the butterflies. It is a brilliant read for all ages and a philanthropic tool

for rewilding butterflies.

Kris Tompkins

This is a profoundly

moving book.

Astrid Vargas articulates beautifully how the key to ecological restoration

is the inspiration

of people.

Ben Goldsmith

With a very original aesthetic,

“On A Butterfly’s Wing“

offers a very sensitive, very deep and very well-documented scientific story. The painted lady will never cease to amaze me, this time too, in the form of this little book which is a real treasure.

Constantí Stefanescu

Lead Researcher, European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme, Natural History Museum, Granollers, Spain

In what a complicated and wonderful way —so detailed and warmly described in this book—

butterflies live.

La Reme shows us the effort it takes

to change to remain oneself, evident

in butterflies but also necessary

for people.
